Google Voice launched a new call transcription feature that records calls and sends summaries via Gmail. This feature uses Gemini AI to clean up notes taken during the call.
The transcription capability is currently available only in English and is limited to paying Google Voice subscribers. The Voice app will display a “Notes” button during calls, allowing users to initiate recording and transcription while talking.
The summaries from calls include key highlights and action points, which are also saved within the app. Google indicated that the feature will be enabled by default for all new Google Voice accounts, while existing accounts will require manual activation.
Administrators of enterprise accounts can manage this feature on a user level. Only users who initiate the recording will have access to the notes generated from specific calls. The new functionality is aligned with similar features already available in Google Meet.
To utilize this feature, users must have AI features in Workspace activated, which includes Gmail’s AI summaries. Currently, the service is designed for businesses that benefit from Google Voice’s virtual number capabilities, especially those operating across multiple markets.
