Google has unveiled a series of new features for Pixel devices and the broader Android ecosystem as part of the March Pixel Drop, enhancing user connectivity, safety, and AI integration.
The updates focus on device tracking, security, and AI integration across Google’s mobile platforms. These changes aim to enhance user connectivity and safety while expanding the utility of Google’s software services. The new features are designed to improve the overall user experience and provide more functionality across Google’s mobile platforms.
One of the key updates is the Find Hub, which now allows users to share real-time locations within Google Messages conversations. Google has partnered with 10 airlines to integrate Find Hub into their baggage recovery process. Luggage recovery requires a missing item to have a Find Hub-compatible tag or network accessory. Users can turn off location sharing at any time. Google stated that the feature sends tracking information to airlines for lost luggage recovery.
In addition to the Find Hub updates, Android users can now create a personalized Calling Card with a photo, font, and color for display in Phone by Google. Google Play has also introduced a feed of Google Play shorts for app discovery, making it easier for users to find new apps.
The Circle to Search feature has been improved to make it easier to virtually try items or shop for fashion from videos and social media posts. Magic Cue, an AI feature from the Pixel 9, now delivers restaurant recommendations, further enhancing the user experience.
Pixel smartphones have received new AI-generated custom icons for the home screen, with six different styles available. Pixel smartwatches have gained new alerts for when a phone is lost or left behind, and Pixel watches now have access to Express Pay, adding to their functionality.
Furthermore, Pixel watches have received new safety alerts for earthquakes, enhancing user safety. Satellite SOS is rolling out to more users in Europe, Canada, Hawaii, and Alaska, providing critical assistance in emergency situations.
