Google is reportedly developing Google Home Premium, a new subscription plan that could replace Nest Aware for its Nest security cameras, introducing enhanced AI integrations powered by Gemini.

Nest Aware currently allows users to access up to two months of recorded footage from Google Nest cameras. With the anticipated rollout of Gemini AI features, Google is poised to overhaul its subscription model. The new Google Home Premium plan is expected to introduce advanced capabilities, building on familiar faces recognition available in Nest Aware but potentially supercharged with AI.

Key features teased in the Google Home Android app’s code include the ability to “teach compatible cameras to recognise who you know,” allowing users to train devices on household members for more accurate detection. This familiar faces functionality may leverage Gemini AI for improved tracking and identification. Another element is described as “Security that understands what it sees,” pointing to object and pet identification systems first previewed at Google I/O.

Promotional strings in the code suggest practical benefits, such as “Keep up with what’s important to you with detailed AI event descriptions, notifications, and daily summaries of what happened at home.” This could provide users with concise recaps of daily activities, reducing the need to sift through hours of footage. In emergency scenarios, the system might enable cameras to automatically call authorities.

The report also uncovers references to a Google Home Premium Advanced tier, likely succeeding the current Nest Aware Plus plan, which offers 60 days of event video history and 10 days of continuous 24/7 video recording. Details on the Advanced plan’s offerings remain unclear, but it could expand with more AI-driven storage or analysis tools.

Integration with broader Google services is another highlight. Code snippets indicate Google Home Premium may bundle with Google One, Google’s cloud storage and perks subscription, already in place for Nest Aware in the UK. Expansion to additional regions could make premium home security more accessible.

While these features are not active yet, their presence in the app’s code suggests an imminent launch, aligning with Google’s push to infuse Gemini AI into its smart home ecosystem. This move could unify subscriptions under the Google Home brand, simplifying offerings for users while emphasizing AI’s role in everyday security.

Industry observers note these developments follow reports of Gemini AI integration into Google Home devices, promising smarter and more responsive routines. Users on Nest Aware can continue enjoying current benefits, but the shift to Google Home Premium may bring a more intelligent experience to homes worldwide.
