Google Rolls Out Song Search History on Android

Google is rolling out a new Song Search history feature for its Android app, extending a capability previously introduced on iOS, allowing users to review their past song searches. This feature enhances the existing Song Search function, which utilizes Google’s AI-powered Circle to Search tool for identifying currently playing songs.

The Song Search history is being deployed with the stable version 16.27 of the Google app on Android. Upon launching the Song Search feature, users will now find a new icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Tapping this icon reveals a list of recently identified tracks, as Google notes, “To help you keep searching, the Google app saves your most recent searches.” This display presents 10 previous results, organized by month, and includes vital information such as album art, song title, artist, and the exact time of the search.

For a more comprehensive overview, a “Show full history” option at the bottom of this list redirects users to Google’s My Activity page. While this page details all past song searches, it currently lacks the album artwork, showing only the title, artist, and search timestamp. The new Song Search history feature on Android can also be accessed via a home screen shortcut, adding to its convenience.

This functionality was initially detected in February through an APK teardown of the Google app for Android, though it lacked a user-facing interface at that time. Subsequently, in April, Google reportedly began rolling out the feature to beta testers, indicating a phased release strategy. Notably, iOS users have had access to this song search history feature since February, coinciding with the initial discovery of its impending arrival on Android. This staggered release highlights Google’s strategy of progressively deploying new functionalities across its diverse ecosystem of mobile operating systems.
