Google has released its April 2025 Pixel update, bringing support for the newly launched Pixel 9a, along with numerous bug fixes and security patches for Pixel phones and tablets.

The update addresses several issues, including problems with biometrics, specifically fingerprint recognition and response under certain conditions. Google has fixed issues with fingerprint recognition, ensuring a smoother user experience. Additionally, the update includes a fix for camera stability when zooming in and out under certain conditions, particularly for Pixel 6, Pixel 7 devices, and the original Pixel Fold.

Another issue resolved in this update is the screen brightness flickering that occurred when using video streaming apps under certain conditions. This fix addresses a reported problem noticed the previous month. Google had quickly released a patch for Android 16 testers, and this update brings the fix to the stable track.

The update also includes fixes for UI issues, such as overlapping views on the lockscreen weather clock under certain conditions, and problems with the Pixel Launcher when creating a new user or switching users under certain conditions. These fixes demonstrate Google’s commitment to providing reliable software support for its Pixel devices.

In addition to the bug fixes, the April 2025 update includes security patches, one of which addresses a “critical” severity issue in Google Assistant. Given the severity of this issue, Google recommends updating Pixel devices as soon as possible. While the update will be delivered Over-The-Air (OTA) to Pixel users, those who want to ensure they have the critical security patch promptly can sideload the OTA for faster installation.
