Google has initiated the rollout of substantial changes to Google Photos, most significantly introducing a new video player design, following an update to the application.
The updated video player boasts a revamped interface featuring a larger progress bar with a vertical marker, thereby facilitating streamlined navigation through the video timeline. The layout of key controls has been modified; the volume control and a newly introduced pause button are located directly above it. Furthermore, users can now conveniently skip or rewind by double-tapping, with the option to add five seconds with each tap. This replaces the functionality where users held down to adjust the video playback.
In addition to the video player, the service has refined its onboarding interface. The updated design gives users’ profile pictures and names greater emphasis, aligning with the “Material Expressive 3” principles. Notably, it no longer contains the mobile data toggle present in the April onboarding UI.
These changes represent part of Google’s ongoing initiative to refresh its apps using the Material 3 Expressive design, aiming to create a cohesive ecosystem. It is anticipated that future changes will be made to other services like Gmail, Meet, and Phone.
