Google Messages Rolls Out Unsend Feature Globally

Google Messages has introduced a highly anticipated unsend feature, enabling users to delete messages from both their device and the recipient’s, leveraging the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol.

This significant update allows users to retract sent messages entirely, a functionality that has been hinted at since its discovery in the app’s source code several months ago. Now, the feature is universally available to Google Messages users. When a user attempts to delete a message, they are prompted with two options: “Delete for everyone” or “Delete for me.” The “Delete for everyone” option removes the message from both the sender’s and recipient’s devices, while “Delete for me” only removes it from the sender’s device. This addition brings Google Messages on par with other popular messaging platforms that have long offered similar functionality.

The introduction of the unsend feature is part of Google Messages’ ongoing enhancements, which have included other notable improvements such as original quality photo sharing. These updates underscore the app’s evolution into a more comprehensive and user-friendly messaging service, further solidifying its position as a viable alternative to third-party messaging apps.
