Google is making its Google Maps Platform data more accessible to cities, developers, and business decision makers by integrating it with BigQuery, its managed data analytics service, for the first time.

The tech giant has announced the integration of new datasets from Google Maps Platform directly into BigQuery. This move is expected to simplify access to data from Google Maps platform products, including Imagery Insights, Roads Management Insights, and Places Insights. These datasets can help cities, developers, companies, and authorities solve a variety of problems.

The Imagery Insights dataset provides information useful for assessing the condition of infrastructure items such as utility poles and street signs. This data can be particularly useful for companies like telecom providers, informing them about the state of infrastructure objects. By having access to this information, these companies can make more informed decisions.

The Roads Management Insights dataset offers both historical and real-time traffic data. This information can be invaluable for road authorities and planners, enabling them to analyze traffic patterns and improve traffic management. With access to real-time and historical data, they can develop more effective strategies to mitigate congestion and optimize traffic flow.

Places Insights delivers aggregated, customizable data about locations within a specified area. This data can be queried based on various features such as user ratings or wheelchair accessibility. By providing insights into the characteristics of different locations, Places Insights can support a range of applications, from urban planning to business development.

In addition to Google Maps Platform data, Earth Engine datasets are also now accessible via BigQuery. This allows users to analyze environmental and sustainability metrics, such as wildfire risk and deforestation, using satellite imagery.
