Google has introduced its new AI video generation model, Veo 3.1 Lite, targeting professional developers with a pricing structure that starts at five cents per second for 720p video, including audio.
The launch of Veo 3.1 Lite comes as a direct response to the competitive landscape, particularly following OpenAI’s shutdown of its Sora video app. The model aims to integrate practical utility and professional capabilities for developers who wish to incorporate video generation into their products.
The Veo 3.1 Lite model is exclusively available for paying Google AI Studio users and does not function within the Gemini app. Paid users will pay five cents per second for 720p videos and eight cents per second for 1080p content. Clips can be generated in landscape format (16:9) or portrait format (9:16), although the model does not support 4K video generation.
Users can create video clips with durations of four, six, or eight seconds, making them suitable for generating quick AI animations for websites or app interfaces, though not ideal for longer video projects.
Moreover, Google will reduce prices for its Veo 3.1 Fast model starting April 7. The revised pricing will set 720p video at 10 cents per second (a reduction of five cents), 1080p at 15 cents (down three cents), and 4K at 35 cents (also down five cents). The Veo 3.1 Fast model is currently being rolled out for paid Google AI Studio users.
