Google is shaking things up with its Gemini app, as Sissie Hsaio steps down and Josh Woodward, current head of NotebookLM, steps in to lead the charge, according to Semafor.
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis stated that this move will “sharpen focus on the next evolution of the Gemini app,” Semafor reports.
Sissie Hsaio, who joined Google in 2006 and became head of Gemini apps in 2021, spearheaded the launch of Google’s ChatGPT competitor, initially named Bard. Semafor reports Hsaio is taking a “short break” and will return to Google in a new role.
Josh Woodward, who helped develop Google’s AI-powered note-taking app NotebookLM, will remain head of Google Labs while also leading Gemini development, Semafor notes. NotebookLM features an Audio Overview tool that creates podcasts from research using AI hosts. This feature has been integrated into Google One AI Premium.
