Google Expands Personal Intelligence to Free US Users

Google is expanding its Personal Intelligence feature to all U.S. users, making it accessible to free-tier accounts for the first time, enhancing user experience through personalized recommendations.

The broader market significance of this development lies in Google’s intent to enhance user experience and engagement through personalized recommendations. Personal Intelligence can assist users in finding specific products or planning activities with minimal context, streamlining interactions within the Google ecosystem.

Users can access Personal Intelligence in AI Mode through Google Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome. By leveraging stored data from services like Gmail and Google Photos, the feature provides tailored suggestions. For instance, if a user is searching for new all-season tires, Gemini can suggest options based on family road-trip photos in Google Photos.

Additionally, when planning a vacation, AI Mode can generate itineraries that consider hotel bookings and previous travel experiences. Feedback from Google services will inform the AI’s recommendations, such as suggesting dining options reflective of past favorites shown in user-uploaded images.

Personal Intelligence is off by default, allowing users complete control over their data connections. Google asserts that Gemini does not directly train on data from Gmail or Google Photos but instead uses prompts and responses within the AI Mode to enhance user interactions.
