Google Classroom has rolled out an AI-powered feature that enables teachers to generate quiz questions, utilizing Gemini to create text-dependent questions based on uploaded files or manually entered text.

Using this new tool, teachers have the option to either upload files from Google Drive or manually enter text for the AI to generate questions, which can then be exported into a Google Doc or Google Form. This makes it easier to integrate the generated questions into their existing workflow, streamlining the process. The generated questions can be exported into a Google Doc or Google Form, enhancing the ease of integration into the teachers’ current teaching methods.

Educators are given the flexibility to customize the generated questions using various filters. These filters include the grade level, the number of questions, and the type of questions, such as multiple choice or open-ended. Teachers can also specify the skills they want their students to demonstrate. Examples of such skills include the use of figurative language or the ability to evaluate arguments. This allows for a more tailored assessment approach, catering to the specific needs of the students.

This feature is available to Google Workspace for Education subscribers who have either the Gemini Education add-on or Gemini Education Premium. The Gemini Education add-on is priced at $24 per user, while Gemini Education Premium is priced at $36 per user. This targeted availability ensures that the feature is accessible to educational institutions already invested in Google’s ecosystem.

Google initially launched Gemini to Classroom in 2024 and has since expanded its capabilities. A recent update included a tool for creating vocabulary lists, further enhancing the platform’s utility for educators. Moreover, Gemini can generate lesson plan ideas and summarize a range of materials, from class notes to student feedback. This makes Gemini a versatile tool for teachers, supporting various aspects of their work.

The introduction of this AI-powered feature underscores Google’s commitment to leveraging technology to support education. By providing teachers with tools to streamline their workflow and enhance their teaching methods, Google Classroom continues to evolve as a comprehensive platform for educational needs. The ongoing development of Google Classroom highlights the company’s dedication to improving the educational experience through innovative technology solutions.
