Google Ads celebrated its 25th anniversary on October 23, 2025, with Vidhya Srinivasan, VP/GM of Ads and Commerce, reflecting on the platform’s history and current trajectory, highlighting its role in fostering business growth through digital platforms.
The initiative, launched 25 years ago, has been guided by the success of its diverse customer base, including small businesses, startups, and global brands, according to Srinivasan. Over the past two and a half decades, Google Ads has introduced several key technologies that have transformed the digital advertising landscape.
Notable breakthroughs include the initial implementation of keyword-based Search advertising, the shift to mobile-first advertising, and the introduction of video ads on YouTube. The integration of Google Analytics has also been a significant development, providing businesses with more detailed insights into their performance. Additionally, Google Ads has incorporated AI-powered campaigns to automate and optimize ad performance.
Currently, the company is focused on leveraging generative AI to transform its digital marketing tools. Srinivasan stated that Google is at the forefront of this effort, developing agentic capabilities, automated campaign optimization, and advanced creative generation. These AI-driven features are designed to enable businesses of any size to scale their creativity, identify new audiences, and connect with customers globally.
Srinivasan articulated the company’s philosophy on effective advertising, stating, “The truth is, the best ads are just answers. They are opportunities for inspiration that respond to people’s challenges, questions and curiosities.” The announcement emphasized that AI foundations now allow the platform to deliver these “answers” more quickly and effectively, with Search and YouTube being the primary platforms where this process of discovery and decision-making takes place.
The achievements of the past 25 years were attributed to thousands of employees, as well as the advertisers, publishers, creators, and users who have engaged with the platform. Srinivasan extended a message of gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions and pledged to “make the next 25 even more memorable.”
