Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed key details about the upcoming game in a Bloomberg interview, outlining significant locations and gameplay elements for the concluding chapter of the remake trilogy.
The comments made by Hamaguchi confirm that the game will begin in the Great Glacier area and feature several other notable locations and elements, including Rocket Town, space travel, and Wutai. According to Hamaguchi, flying the Highwind will be a significant part of the experience, and the core game is almost complete, with the team focused on refining and polishing.
Hamaguchi cited Yuffie’s prominent appearance in the narrative and fan expectation as reasons for Wutai’s inclusion in Part 3. Additionally, Rocket Town and space travel will appear in the installment, with Hamaguchi noting that these elements were switched around during the development of Rebirth. The Highwind’s gameplay experience has been expanded, with flying being a “very large part” of the third installment.
The director also addressed Chocobo elements, stating that there is an element involving Chocobos that is “a little different than Rebirth,” but did not confirm breeding. Underwater exploration was not directly addressed, with Hamaguchi deferring to director Motomu Toriyama regarding the submarine portion of the game.
Queen’s Blood, the card game from Rebirth, will return in a “powered-up” form in Part 3, according to Hamaguchi. The remake series is expanding to multiplatform, including Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox, with Hamaguchi insisting that this will “not in any way lower the quality” of Part 3, noting that prior installments on these platforms were well received.
In a separate note, Hamaguchi recommended the fantasy game Esoteric Ebb, describing it as “Disco Elysium meets Dungeons & Dragons by way of Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett.” Naoki Hamaguchi directs Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 for Square Enix.
