The European Union has launched a new antitrust process to ensure major platforms comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), with potential penalties for non-compliance.
The European Commission has initiated specification proceedings focused on Google’s compliance with DMA requirements, specifically regarding interoperability and access to key services. The goal is to ensure third-party access to comparable features and prevent competition from being skewed in favor of the largest platforms.
While these proceedings differ from traditional antitrust cases, they can result in binding measures and may inform future enforcement actions. The Commission’s announcement can be found on their official Digital Markets Act website.
