Electronic Arts has announced that it will be shutting down The Sims Mobile, making the game permanently inaccessible on January 20, 2026. The company confirmed that the latest update released for the mobile title will be its last.

The Sims Mobile, which first launched in 2018, has received more than 50 updates throughout its lifespan. As part of the shutdown process, EA has disabled the ability for players to spend real money in the game, effective immediately. Additionally, The Sims Mobile is scheduled to be delisted from both the iOS and Android app stores tomorrow, preventing new downloads. The complete server shutdown in 2026 will render the game entirely unplayable for all existing users, as EA stated the game “will no longer be accessible to play and will be sunset.”

The discontinuation of The Sims Mobile comes as the franchise prepares for its next installment. EA has stated that The Sims 4 remains active and shows no signs of ending soon. The company is also developing the next major game for the series, currently known as “Project Rene.” This upcoming title is expected to feature both single-player and multiplayer gameplay and be available across PC and mobile platforms. The development of a cross-platform experience coincides with the shutdown of the standalone mobile game.

EA has not discussed Project Rene publicly in recent months, and the project is still considered to be in early development, meaning its features and plans could change. The future of EA’s major franchises, including The Sims, could also be influenced by the company’s ongoing process of going private in a potential $55 billion deal.
