Android users who want to roll back an app to a previous version can follow specific methods, as only certain phones and apps allow uninstalling an app’s updates. Google advises against installing apps from third-party sources due to potential malware risks.

Installing apps from third-party sources can expose devices to malware and potential harm, so users should proceed with caution and only download from trusted sites like APKMirror. There are three methods to revert app updates or install older versions on Android devices.

Method 1 involves uninstalling pre-installed app updates. To do this, users should open the Settings app, tap Apps, and then tap the menu icon in the upper-right corner. They should toggle the switch next to Show system apps to turn it on, select the app, tap the three-dot menu at the top-right of the app’s info page, and tap Uninstall updates. After confirming, users should open the Google Play Store and disable auto-updates for the app. This option is only available for certain pre-installed apps on specific Android devices.

For Android 8.0 and later, Method 2 can be used to install an older app version. Users should start by downloading APK Installer and Droid Hardware Info from the Google Play Store. They should then note their OS version, DPI, CPU architecture, and Instruction Sets using Droid Hardware Info. After uninstalling the app they want to downgrade, users should allow APK Installer to install from unknown sources by going to Settings, tapping Apps, and then enabling the option in Special access. Users can then open APKMirror in their mobile browser, search for the app, and download the desired version. They should select the APK variant matching their CPU architecture and screen density, then install it using APK Installer.

For Android 7.0 and earlier, Method 3 is used. Users should download and run Droid Hardware Info, note their OS version, DPI, CPU architecture, and Instruction Sets, and then uninstall the app they want to downgrade. They should enable apps from unknown sources in Settings under Lock screen and security. Users can then open APKMirror, search for the app, and download the desired version. After selecting the correct APK variant, they can install it by opening their Downloads folder and tapping the APK file.

After installing an older app version, users can consider using a firewall app like NoRoot Firewall to block the app from connecting to the Play Store and auto-updating. Reverting app updates gives users control over their Android experience, especially when a new version introduces bugs or removes features. However, it’s crucial to weigh the risks, as older versions might lack security patches. Users should regularly check for safer alternatives and prioritize security to avoid compromising their data or privacy.
