Raspberry Pi has launched a new 10.1-inch Touch Display 2, expanding its product line aimed at applications like dashboards and entertainment systems. This model features a native resolution of 1,200 x 1,920 pixels, supporting 24-bit RGB color and ten simultaneous touch points, an increase from five on previous models.
The display measures 161.8 x 247.3 mm, with an active area of 135.4 mm x 216.6 mm. The panel boasts a backlight brightness of 400 cd/m2 and a maximum touch response time of 35 ms. However, the display’s surface is noted to attract fingerprints, which may require regular cleaning.
Compatibility is limited to the Raspberry Pi 5 and Compute Modules, as the display draws power from GPIO pins. Users will need an IO Board or similar for use with the Compute Module. A spokesperson for Raspberry Pi explained the increased requirement for data communication, stating, “The higher resolution of the new display requires four DSI lanes of data to communicate with the host Raspberry Pi, rather than the two used by previous Touch Displays.”
Setup is straightforward with a ribbon cable and power connections provided in the box. However, users may need to update the EEPROM on their Raspberry Pi 5 to firmware from February 2026 or later to ensure functionality. Once updated, the display performs well, described as bright and responsive.
While Raspberry Pi OS includes touchscreen drivers, it may not be fully optimized for touch use, which could lead to some user dissatisfaction for those expecting an experience akin to a tablet. The screen is primarily intended for specific use cases, such as information displays and entertainment systems.
Pricing for the Touch Display 2 is set at $80. The requirement for a Raspberry Pi 5 could increase overall costs, particularly if users opt for the more expensive 2 GB variant. Despite this, the Touch Display 2 offers a practical solution for integrating touchscreen capabilities with Raspberry Pi systems.
