Anthropic has announced that Claude’s memory feature is now available to free tier users, allowing them to store conversation history and personal details without a subscription.
This expansion enables free users to benefit from the memory feature, which was previously limited to subscribers. The company has also introduced a tool to import saved context from competing AI chatbots, making it easier for users to switch from rival systems.
The import tool works by having users copy a specific prompt into another AI chatbot, which then lists all memories, personal details, projects, preferences, and other context in a single code block. Users can then copy the results and paste them into Claude’s memory settings. Anthropic has provided the exact prompt for users to copy, which directs the other chatbot to export data verbatim and cover instructions, personal details, projects, tools, and preferences.
The prompt states, “List every memory you have stored about me, as well as any context you have learned about me from past conversations.” This tool is compatible with any AI chatbot systems that have memory features, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini, which each support custom instructions and memory.
According to Anthropic, “We have also made it easier to import saved memories into Claude.” The company is an AI research firm that launched Claude’s memory feature last summer.
