Canon Re-Releases Classic PowerShot Camera in 2025

Canon is re-releasing its PowerShot Elph 360 HS as the PowerShot Elph 360 HS A in 2025, riding the wave of digicam popularity fueled by TikTok and celebrity endorsements.

The original Elph 360 HS, launched in 2016, was a favorite among celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Dua Lipa. The 2025 “A” model retains many of its specifications, including a 20.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, Digic IV Plus processor, 12x optical zoom, 1080p video recording, and a USB Mini port. However, it now uses microSD cards instead of the full-size SD cards used in the 2016 version.

The new Elph 360 HS A comes with a higher price tag of $379, a significant increase from the original’s $210 launch price. Certain features present in the original model have been removed, including Wi-Fi image transfers to PCs and direct printing via Wi-Fi. The color options have also been reduced, with the new model available only in black or silver, omitting the purple color option offered with the original Elph 360 HS.

The camera is scheduled to launch in late October. Canon had not officially discontinued the original Elph 360 HS until the announcement of the “A” model. The older version can still be found at some retailers, often at inflated prices. B&H Photo, an authorized Canon dealer, lists the original Elph 360 HS for $359.99 but notes that it is currently “temporarily out of stock.” According to a B&H sales representative, the last shipment was received on August 14th, and these units were quickly sold.

The decision to re-release the PowerShot Elph 360 HS appears to be driven by the rising popularity of point-and-shoot cameras among younger users and the trend of celebrities using the original model. Canon aims to capitalize on this viral interest, though the company’s entry into the market may affect the camera’s appeal as a hard-to-get item.

The PowerShot Elph 360 HS was marketed under different names in other regions. In Europe, it was released as the Ixus 285 HS, while in Japan, it was known as the Ixy 650. This practice of using different names for the same product in different markets is common for Canon.
