Gearbox has unveiled its first paid DLC vault hunter for Borderlands 4 at the Tokyo Game Show, introducing C4SH, a former casino dealer robot whose abilities incorporate an element of chance across all three skill trees.
A short cinematic teaser was shown during the game’s panel and has been made available on YouTube, with Gearbox planning to release a full breakdown of C4SH’s abilities at a future date. C4SH is scheduled to launch in Q1 2026 alongside the game’s first story pack, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.”
This downloadable content will include new main missions, new gear, a new map region, and various cosmetic items, with the C4SH character included as part of this story pack. The upcoming content is set to expand the game’s offerings, building on the existing experience.
However, Borderlands 4 is currently addressing existing technical issues. A recent patch aimed at improving performance has reportedly caused additional problems, prompting Gearbox to advise PC players experiencing instability within 15 minutes of starting the game to clear their shader cache.
In other news, the release of Borderlands 4 on the Switch 2 has been delayed to an unspecified date to allow for “additional development and polish time.” This decision comes after Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford posted on X, advising players unhappy with the game’s performance to seek a refund shortly after the game’s initial release.
Despite these technical issues, Eurogamer’s review of Borderlands 4 highlighted some of the game’s strengths, stating that “Borderlands 4 brings a more sensible script and a true open world to its pseudo-cel-shaded gun-show. But these moderate improvements are undermined by frustrating exploration and combat that takes too long to properly shine.”
