Battlefield 6 to Feature Battle Royale Mode

Electronic Arts has confirmed that Battlefield 6 will feature a battle royale mode, validating months of speculation within the gaming community. This announcement was made by Kevin Johnson, the Battlefield Global Community Manager.

Johnson revealed via social media that the battle royale mode will soon be available for testing within Battlefield Labs, a platform used by EA for experimental features and gameplay modes. The news was accompanied by a teaser trailer released by EA, showcasing intense and chaotic gameplay moments, giving fans a glimpse into what to expect from the new mode.

The inclusion of a battle royale mode in Battlefield 6 marks the franchise’s second foray into the genre, following the release of Battlefield V’s Firestorm mode in 2019. However, Firestorm failed to gain significant traction against more popular battle royale titles such as Call of Duty: Warzone. Leaked details about the upcoming battle royale mode suggest that the map will be set in California, with players being inserted into the battlefield via CH-47 Chinook helicopters.

Further details from the leaks indicate that the destructive ring mechanic, a staple of battle royale gameplay, will be constructed from a compound referred to as “NXC.” This mechanic is crucial for the progression of battle royale matches, as it gradually shrinks the playable area, pushing players into closer proximity and intensifying the combat.

Battlefield 6 is slated for a full release on October 10. While EA has not confirmed whether the battle royale mode will be available at launch, the game’s developers have emphasized their commitment to maintaining an authentic military aesthetic. This includes avoiding the implementation of “goofy” cosmetic skins, a decision that differentiates Battlefield 6 from other titles in the genre, such as Call of Duty, which often feature a wide range of cosmetic options.
