Remember those solid-state button rumors for the iPhone? They’re back. According to Weibo leaker Instant Digital (via MacRumors), Apple is still tinkering with the tech, although a release this year is off the table.

The iPhone 15 Pro rumor mill was buzzing with speculation about Apple adding solid-state buttons. Codenamed “Project Bongo,” the plan was scrapped due to technological hurdles.

Despite the initial setback, the chatter about solid-state buttons persisted through both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro cycles.

The core problem? Apparently, these haptic-feedback buttons can lead to “mistouches.” The leaker suggests Apple isn’t confident enough in their reliability. So, the project is currently “on hold” while Apple prioritizes advancements in display and battery tech.
