Apple has unveiled the iPhone Air, its thinnest and lightest iPhone to date, measuring 5.6mm. The device boasts a titanium frame, redesigned internal architecture, and enhanced performance.
The iPhone Air features a grade-5 titanium frame coupled with a precision-milled back plateau that integrates cameras, Apple silicon, and speakers, maximizing internal space for a larger battery while maintaining a slim profile.
Durability is enhanced with Ceramic Shield 2 on both the front and back, providing three times better scratch resistance and four times better crack resistance compared to previous iPhone models. The frame also meets Apple’s highest bend-strength requirements.
The device’s 6.5-inch OLED display supports ProMotion technology with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz, Always-On functionality, and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. The display also incorporates an anti-reflection coating for improved outdoor readability and twice the contrast.
A new 18MP Center Stage front camera features a square sensor and a wider field of view, enabling selfies in both portrait and landscape orientations. AI capabilities adjust the frame for group shots and stabilize 4K HDR video.
The rear camera system includes a 48MP Fusion main camera with multiple focal lengths, a 2x telephoto option, and an updated Photonic Engine. Portrait mode now includes Focus Control, allowing users to adjust depth of field after capturing a photo.
The iPhone Air is powered by the new A19 Pro chip, featuring a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and neural accelerators, delivering up to three times faster peak GPU compute. The device also incorporates Apple’s N1 wireless chip and C1X modem for faster cellular performance.
The redesigned internal architecture allows for a larger battery while maintaining the ultra-thin design. Software optimizations and Apple silicon efficiency contribute to all-day battery life, with a new Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26 learning user habits to conserve power.
The iPhone Air adopts an eSIM-only design, eliminating the physical SIM tray and supporting eSIM with over 500 carriers globally. Apple emphasizes that eSIM provides enhanced security and easier travel setup.
The iPhone Air will be available in four colors and storage options ranging from 256GB to 1TB. Pre-orders begin on September 12, and availability starts on September 19, with pricing starting at $999 in the U.S.
