Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17, featuring a new front-facing Center Stage camera, a 48MP Dual Fusion rear camera system, a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, and the A19 processor.
A key addition is the Center Stage front camera, marking the first time this feature appears on an iPhone front camera. The 18MP square sensor provides a wider field of view, enabling portrait and landscape selfies without rotating the device. AI-based framing automatically adjusts group photos, while video calls remain centered. This camera also supports ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video and Dual Capture, allowing simultaneous recording from both front and rear cameras.
The rear camera system features 48MP sensors on both lenses. The Fusion Main camera provides detailed shots and incorporates a 2x telephoto option. The new 48MP Ultra Wide camera improves resolution up to 4x, enhancing wide landscape and macro photography. Video recording capabilities include 4K at 60fps with Dolby Vision, Spatial Audio, wind noise reduction, and spatial video capture for viewing on Apple Vision Pro.
The iPhone 17 features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with thinner bezels, ProMotion technology up to 120Hz, and a peak outdoor brightness of 3000 nits. The Ceramic Shield 2 offers improved scratch resistance and reduced glare. The Always-On display is retained for widgets and live activities.
The A19 chip, built on a 3-nanometer process, features a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, delivering performance improvements in speed and graphics. An upgraded Neural Engine supports Apple Intelligence features and accelerates on-device AI tasks. The chip’s efficiency allows up to 30 hours of video playback, with a 50% charge achievable in 20 minutes using high-wattage USB-C adapters.
Connectivity enhancements include a new N1 wireless chip that supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The eSIM functionality is expanding globally, with an eSIM-only model available in select regions. Apple emphasizes that eSIM improves convenience, security, and flexibility for international travel.
The iPhone 17 is available in black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white. Its design incorporates 30% recycled materials, including 85% recycled aluminum and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery. The packaging is fully fiber-based, and production utilizes 35% renewable electricity.
The iPhone 17 will be available in 256GB and 512GB versions. Pre-orders began on September 12, with availability starting September 19 in over 60 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Europe, Japan, and Türkiye.
