Apple to Launch eSIM-Only iPhones in Europe Soon

Apple is reportedly set to expand its eSIM-only iPhone strategy to Europe, potentially starting with the iPhone 17 lineup, as the company continues its push towards enhanced security and simplified device setup.

According to a source, Apple Authorized Reseller employees in the EU are required to complete an eSIM training course by September 5th, just four days before the anticipated iPhone 17 launch event on September 9th. This deadline suggests that the iPhone 17 models sold in the EU may also lack a physical SIM card slot, necessitating comprehensive eSIM activation training for retail staff.

The training materials are said to be accessible through Apple’s SEED app, a platform utilized by employees in Apple Stores and Authorized Resellers globally. This move indicates that Apple is preparing its retail staff for a potential shift towards eSIM-only iPhones in the European market.

The possibility of a wider rollout of the eSIM-only design beyond the US and potentially worldwide is raised by this development. Rumors have already indicated the removal of the physical SIM slot for the iPhone 17 Air, attributed to its exceptionally slim design. This change could extend to the entire iPhone 17 family, although certain regions, such as China, might be exceptions.

The move signifies Apple’s continued push towards eSIM technology, offering benefits such as enhanced security and simplified device setup, while also reducing reliance on physical components.
