Apple has reportedly pushed back the launch of its highly anticipated 18-inch foldable iPad until 2029, with a potential price tag of up to $3,900, as the tech giant continues to diversify its manufacturing operations.
This significant delay in the foldable iPad’s release comes as Apple is actively shifting its production away from China, with Vietnam emerging as a crucial manufacturing hub. The country is now playing a vital role in producing the new Vision Pro, which boasts an M5 chip, and its accompanying Dual Knit headband. Moreover, Vietnam is also handling the production of the majority of AirPods, Apple Watches, iPads, and HomePods, underscoring its growing importance in Apple’s supply chain. Future smart home devices, including a smart display, an indoor security camera, and a tabletop robot, are also expected to be manufactured in Vietnam, further solidifying the country’s position in Apple’s production landscape.
Apple’s efforts to diversify its manufacturing extend beyond Vietnam, with other regions also benefiting from the company’s strategic shift. Some Mac computers are now being produced in Thailand and Malaysia, while the iPhone 17 lineup sold in the United States is expected to be primarily manufactured in India. Additionally, Apple plans to have the cover glass used in all iPhones and Apple Watches produced in the United States, highlighting the company’s commitment to expanding its production footprint across various regions.
