Apple is reportedly considering introducing red as a premium color for its upcoming iPhone Pro models, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who stated that red is currently the “flagship color in testing”.
The potential shift to red follows the sales success of the current Cosmic Orange option, which has been boosting sales in China. The bold orange color has been informally rebranded as “Hermès orange” by consumers and is becoming a status symbol in the region.
Red is considered a lucky color in Chinese culture, which could help Apple capture further sales in that market. This strategic move is likely influenced by the cultural significance of the color, as well as the success of the orange variant.
Apple has offered red iPhones previously through its collaboration with Product Red. The last models available in deep red hues were the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus.
In contrast to the premium Pro models, Gurman reported that Apple will stick with basic tones for the rumored foldable iPhone. Meanwhile, Gurman predicted that previously rumored purple and brown shades might simply be variations of the main red option.
