Anthropic has launched a new memory import tool for its Claude AI chatbot, allowing users to extract context from competing platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot and seamlessly continue conversations.
The tool converts memories from these platforms into a text prompt that users can copy and paste into Claude. Anthropic stated that the AI chatbot takes about 24 hours to assimilate the new context. This development positions Claude as a more attractive option for users migrating from other platforms, enabling them to pick up where they left off without having to restart conversations.
Users can view the changes by clicking the “See what Claude learned about you” button. Additionally, they can manage and tweak what Claude remembers in the “Manage memory” section in the app’s settings. According to Anthropic, Claude focuses on work-related topics and may not remember unrelated personal details, a specialization that enhances Claude’s effectiveness as a collaborator.
The launch of the memory import tool coincided with Claude reaching the number one spot in the App Store’s free apps chart, dethroning ChatGPT in the process. This rise in popularity followed Anthropic’s dispute with the Department of Defense, where the company refused to compromise on AI guardrails for mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons.
As a result of Anthropic’s stance, OpenAI is now taking its vacated role with the Department of Defense, a shift that has led to user boycotts and subscription cancellations for ChatGPT. Anthropic develops AI systems with a focus on safety and research, competing with OpenAI and Google in the AI assistant market. Claude is the company’s flagship conversational AI product.
