Adobe Premiere Pro’s AI is here to make you a wizard

Adobe Premiere Pro’s AI is here to make you a wizard

Adobe’s Premiere Pro just got a whole lot smarter, thanks to new AI-powered features in version 25.2, released today. Video editors can now leverage tools for locating footage, translating captions, and magically extending video clips, all designed to speed up workflows and enhance creative options.

The highlight? Generative Extend, powered by Adobe’s Firefly AI, lets users stretch clips by up to two seconds, making transitions smoother and fixing those pesky on-set mishaps without needing reshoots. This tool—announced in October—now generates 4K clips and stretches background audio up to ten seconds (or two seconds when paired with video).

Adobe is offering Generative Extend for free for a “limited time.” Afterward, users will need Firefly generative credits, with Creative Cloud subscriptions offering monthly credit allocations from 25 to 1,000, depending on the plan. Users can also purchase additional credits starting at $10 for 2,000 credits per month. The exact credit consumption for Generative Extend will vary based on format, frame rate, and resolution, according to Adobe.

Premiere Pro’s new AI-powered Search panel automatically recognizes clip content, allowing users to find footage by searching text descriptions of objects, locations, camera angles, and effects (e.g., “close-ups of hands working in a kitchen.”). Premiere Color Management now automatically transforms log and raw files to SDR or HDR, eliminating the need for lookup tables. This release also includes a new wide-gamut color pipeline.

The software can now translate video captions into 27 languages automatically and enables the display of multiple caption tracks simultaneously. Adobe has also improved speed and performance across Apple silicon and Windows devices.

Alongside Premiere Pro 25.2, After Effects 25.2 is also launching, bringing new HDR monitoring, animation controls, support for 3D FBX models, and animated environmental light effects. A new High Performance Preview Playback feature caching system uses both RAM and local disks for easier previews of longer compositions.
