Xiaomi has initiated an Android 16 Developer Preview Program for its flagship devices, the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 14T Pro, providing app developers the opportunity to optimize their applications for the forthcoming operating system version.
Xiaomi is among the first manufacturers to adopt Android 16, preceding the official stable release anticipated in the upcoming months. With Android 16 achieving Platform Stability with Beta 3, Xiaomi’s initiative mirrors the timelines of Google and OnePlus, both of whom recently commenced preview rollouts. The Xiaomi 15, launched with Android 15 and featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and the Xiaomi 14T Pro, initially running Android 14 with a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chip, are both part of this program. This cross-platform compatibility demonstrates Xiaomi’s dedication to providing consistent updates across devices powered by both Qualcomm and MediaTek.
The Developer Preview is designed for app developers seeking to optimize their apps for the upcoming OS version using Xiaomi hardware. The program is specifically intended for development and testing purposes, and users should not expect new HyperOS features in this build.
To participate in the beta program, users must ensure their devices are updated to specific OS versions. Xiaomi 15 users must have OS version 2.0.109.0.VOCMIXM or later, and Xiaomi 14T Pro users need OS version 2.0.103.0.VNNMIXM or later. The preview can be installed through two methods: Local Update and Fastboot Method. For the Local Update method, users can download the ROM from Xiaomi’s Android Beta page and install it through the device settings. The Fastboot Method, on the other hand, necessitates an unlocked bootloader and technical expertise, and it will erase all device data, emphasizing the importance of backups.
An Android Beta Feedback app is included, enabling users to report bugs and issues directly to Xiaomi during the testing phase, which facilitates a more streamlined development process. As Google continues to refine Android 16, with the stable build expected soon, Xiaomi’s developer-focused release sets the stage for broader updates and improvements in the near future.
