Apple will pay up to $250 million to settle a U.S. class action lawsuit regarding the delayed launch of Siri AI, with eligible iPhone users potentially receiving up to $95 each. The settlement received preliminary approval from a judge in July, but the settlement website is not yet active, indicating that it may take several months before customers can submit claims.
The lawsuit stems from a preview of new Siri capabilities, powered by Apple Intelligence, announced by Apple in June 2024. The features included personalized context awareness and deep integration with apps like Mail and Messages. After a delay in launching the updated Siri, Apple faced allegations of false advertising.
In its defense, Apple highlighted other features of Apple Intelligence that had already been released. However, the company opted to settle the lawsuit to focus on delivering innovative products, as stated in their announcement.
Eligible claimants must reside in the U.S. and have purchased an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 model between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. The list of eligible models includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Claimants may not need to possess the device but should be prepared to provide proof of purchase or the device’s serial number.
Each approved claim will initially provide a payment of $25 per device, with the total amount potentially increasing to $95 if the number of claims is lower than expected. A settlement website will eventually provide an online claims form.
Eligible class members will receive notification by email approximately 45 days after the settlement received preliminary approval. Those who purchased the qualifying iPhone models within the specified timeframe are encouraged to stay informed about the claims process.
