AMD reveals 256-core EPYC Venice CPU as first 2nm HPC chip in volume ramp

AMD showcased its next-generation EPYC Venice CPU, featuring a core count of 256 based on the Zen 6 architecture, at the Advancing AI event. The design includes massive twin I/O dies, marking it as AMD’s first 2nm high-performance computing chip to enter volume ramp.

The EPYC Venice CPU is positioned to enhance the capabilities of data centers, which are increasingly reliant on CPUs due to the growing prominence of agentic AI and reinforcement learning workloads. AMD emphasized that the new CPU lineup aims to address the evolving demands of these advanced computing tasks.

AMD’s new EPYC Venice CPU lineup aims to provide cutting-edge performance metrics, with each Zen 6 chip featuring 32 cores per chiplet. This significant increase in core count is expected to help data centers manage the intensifying computational requirements.
