PlayStation 6 controller may eliminate stick drift issue with new design

The PlayStation 6 controller may eliminate the component associated with stick drift, addressing a longstanding complaint from users of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller.

The DualSense controller has been praised for its features but criticized for stick drift issues caused by wear in the potentiometer. This problem results in the sticks registering movement even when not physically pushed. Sony’s DualSense Edge controller attempted to mitigate this by allowing users to swap out stick modules.

A newly surfaced patent from Sony Interactive Entertainment suggests that the company is developing a solution aimed at permanently resolving the stick drift problem for the PlayStation 6 controller. The patent indicates a design change that could lead to improved durability and performance.
