OnePlus is facing criticism for misleading promotional materials regarding the lower 4GB RAM variant of its newly launched OnePlus N6 smartphone. The 4GB model lacks the 60-month fluency guarantee and 60fps video recording supported by the 6GB variant, yet active buy pages on Amazon India and the official OnePlus site advertise these features for both models without adequate footnotes.
Users and YouTubers have highlighted these discrepancies for two weeks since the launch, but the listings remain unchanged, leading to claims of misleading marketing by OnePlus. The company is accused of promoting features that do not apply to the lower RAM variant.
The marketing materials included claims of a 60-month fluency guarantee and smooth 60fps video recording in pre-launch teasers. However, these claims lacked proper clarification, only stating that the features applied to the higher 6GB RAM variant, not the 4GB variant.
OnePlus did issue some disclaimers, particularly on the OnePlus N6 landing page on its India website. These disclaimers specify that the 60-month “smooth experience” claim applies to the 6GB variant, while the 4GB variant is limited to a 48-month guarantee. Additionally, the 60fps video recording feature is exclusive to the higher-RAM model, with the 4GB version reportedly supporting only 30fps.
Despite the presence of disclaimers, the main product listings for the 4GB OnePlus N6 still inaccurately claim a 60-month “smooth experience” and 60fps video recording without the necessary disclaimers or footnote references. This oversight raises concerns about the accuracy of the marketing content.
Errors persisted in listings across multiple platforms, including Amazon India, which featured misleading titles and product details for both variants. Users were left feeling misled due to the lack of proper clarification and the apparent copying and pasting of marketing content.
OnePlus India has been contacted for a statement regarding the situation, and further updates will be provided once a response is received.
