Google Maps Immersive Navigation is reportedly rolling out for Android Auto, introducing features such as 3D buildings and enhanced flyovers. This update appears to be a server-side change rather than tied to a specific app version.
The rollout comes after Google announced a significant redesign of the Google Maps navigation interface earlier this year, which initially appeared on CarPlay. Users of Android Auto had been using the previous navigation UI since the announcement.
A Reddit user, radgatt, shared screenshots demonstrating the new immersive navigation UI on Android Auto, showing detailed 3D graphics, including individual trees. The user noted that the update followed the installation of Android Auto version 17.3, released recently.
However, some users with the latest beta versions of Android Auto and Google Maps report that the immersive UI is not visible for them. This suggests that the feature’s availability may not be strictly linked to the most recent version of Android Auto.
Google Maps’ immersive navigation has been available in the U.S. for iOS, CarPlay, and Android users, but the rollout has been gradual. There has been no announcement regarding availability in other countries, leaving international users awaiting an expansion of the feature.
