Snap has launched its daily-use augmented reality (AR) glasses, Specs, priced at $2,195. The company has transitioned its long-developed AR glasses project to the consumer market, marking a return to direct sales to end-users after previously offering only developer versions.
The Specs, which first hit the market in 2019, feature a design closer to regular eyewear but are slightly thicker due to the embedded technology. Snap has integrated all processing power into the glasses, eliminating the need for an external connection unit.
Specs operates on dual Snapdragon processors and offers approximately four hours of usage on a single charge, which can extend to 20 hours with the charging case. A notable feature is the EyeConnect social gaming experience, allowing users to participate in interactive games through eye contact.
In addition to gaming, the device supports video watching, point-of-view (POV) video recording, web browsing, email checking, and access to productivity applications. Snap emphasizes its integration of artificial intelligence, enabling the Specs to recognize objects users are looking at and provide real-time information.
The glasses come in two sizes, 47 mm and 52 mm, and weigh between 132-136 grams. While this weight is noticeably heavier than Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, it is lighter compared to Apple’s Vision Pro.
Regarding privacy, Specs features an LED light that activates during recording and offers data control options for users. Snap allows users to manage their data, including control over storage and deletion.
