China plans to utilize 80% of Huawei chips in its $295 billion AI strategy aimed at achieving significant advancements in artificial intelligence over the next five years. The Beijing Administration intends to rely heavily on domestic suppliers, particularly Huawei, to reach its AI goals.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the Chinese government has allocated $295 billion to develop AI infrastructure, emphasizing the use of 80% domestic components, including Huawei’s Ascend chips. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the country’s AI capabilities and expand its influence globally.

US restrictions have impacted China’s semiconductor industry, hindering its progress in advanced AI technologies. Despite these challenges, major tech firms such as Huawei, Alibaba, and Baidu are accelerating their efforts to advance China’s AI sector.

The new AI strategy involves deploying data centers throughout the country, with a commitment to sourcing at least 80% of the technology components from local suppliers, including Huawei. The Ascend chipsets from Huawei are reportedly improving rapidly and are viewed as viable alternatives to Nvidia semiconductors.

Huawei has announced plans for the development of new AI chips that will support China’s AI strategy. The company aims to release a new AI chip each year, with each generation expected to double the computing power of its predecessor.

In a strategic shift, China is focusing on supporting developing countries and pursuing self-reliant AI goals rather than depending on foreign technology from companies like Nvidia.
