Meta has announced that it will discontinue access to its virtual reality platform, Horizon Worlds, effective June 15, 2026, to focus resources on the smartphone version of the app.

The withdrawal of the VR version will see individual Horizon Worlds and Events removed from the Quest Store by March 31. Following this date, Quest headset users will no longer have access to virtual locations such as “Horizon Central,” “Events Arena,” “Kaiju,” and “Bobber Bay.” After June 15, 2026, the Horizon Worlds app will be deleted from Quest headsets, rendering all associated worlds inaccessible.

From that juncture, users will be able to access Horizon Worlds exclusively through the Meta Horizon app available on iOS and Android devices. Furthermore, the Hyperscape Capture feature, which enabled users to capture, share, and explore 3D scans of real-world locations, will also be eliminated. Users can still capture and view Hyperscapes, but functionalities related to sharing and co-experiencing with others will be disabled.

Meta’s decision to concentrate on the mobile version stems from observed “positive momentum” within that sector throughout 2025. This move indicates a significant departure from its earlier branding as a “metaverse company,” signaling a shift in investment priorities toward artificial intelligence and smart glasses.
