Spotify Unveils Exclusive Mode for Lossless Audio Playback

Spotify is launching an “Exclusive Mode” feature for its Windows app, enabling bit-perfect playback for users, allowing the company to deliver music exactly as it was mastered.

This functionality allows Spotify to take exclusive control of the audio hardware. Exclusive Mode aims to prevent any alterations to audio output that may occur when other system sounds are active. With this mode enabled, all other computer sounds are muted, allowing Spotify to provide the highest fidelity audio experience. For optimal sound quality, the company recommends users listen with wired headphones connected to a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and utilize Spotify’s lossless streaming option.

Currently, Exclusive Mode is exclusively available on the Windows platform, with plans to extend support to macOS in a future release. Activation of the feature requires a Spotify Premium subscription. Users can enable Exclusive Mode by accessing the Settings menu, scrolling to Playback, and toggling the feature to “On” in the Output section.
