Google has introduced new Gemini-powered artificial intelligence features for its productivity suite, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, aiming to enhance user productivity by streamlining content creation within the existing applications.
The update allows users to generate fully formatted documents, spreadsheets, and presentations by pulling data from Gmail, Chat, and Drive. This integration enables users to create content without having to switch to external chatbots, thereby increasing productivity. The features are currently in beta and available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers.
In Docs, a new “Help me create” tool generates first drafts based on user descriptions and information from connected Google services. Users can refine specific sections of a document and use “Help me write” to improve clarity. Additionally, a “Match writing style” feature unifies the tone of documents worked on by multiple people, while a “Match the format” tool mirrors the structure of existing templates using data from emails.
For Sheets, Gemini can create a fully formatted spreadsheet from a single prompt. A “Fill with Gemini” tool populates tables by generating text, summarizing data, or pulling information from the web. This feature is designed to simplify the process of creating and managing spreadsheets.
In Slides, Gemini generates editable slides that match a presentation’s theme. The company plans to release a future update allowing users to create a complete presentation from a single prompt, further enhancing the productivity features in Slides.
Drive is also receiving significant updates, including an “AI Overview” that summarizes relevant information at the top of search results. A new “Ask Gemini in Drive” feature lets users ask complex questions across their documents, emails, and calendar, making it easier to find and utilize relevant information.
These features are rolling out in English worldwide for Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and in the U.S. for Drive. The introduction of these Gemini-powered features is expected to significantly enhance the user experience and productivity within Google’s productivity suite.
