X introduced Exclusive Threads, a new feature for its creator subscriptions platform, on March 5, 2026, allowing participating accounts to paywall parts of tweet threads, visible only to subscribers.
The update aims to increase subscriber growth and revenue for content creators on the platform. By allowing creators to tease paywalled content in the parent post, the feature seeks to monetize the rest of the thread. This development is part of a broader push to attract and retain content creators.
Creators can now lock any post in a thread for subscribers only. The X Creators account stated, “Tease in the parent, monetize the rest.” A GIF demonstrating the feature was shared by both the X Creators account and Nikita Bier, the company’s head of product.
X has been adding features to attract creators, such as a ‘paid partnership’ label for sponsored posts. The company competes with text-based social media platforms, including one named Threads. X did not release financial details regarding the new feature.
