Amazon Web Services announced the launch of Amazon Connect Health, an AI agent-powered platform designed to help healthcare organizations automate administrative tasks.
The new service targets repetitive workflows, including appointment scheduling, documentation, and patient verification. Amazon Connect Health is HIPAA-eligible and integrates with electronic health record software. The company stated that the platform is partnered with EHR providers, data integrators, and patient engagement companies. AWS said the software costs $99 per month per user for up to 600 encounters.
The launch represents AWS’s first major product offering AI agents within a regulatory-compliant platform. The service works with existing clinician software to manage provider administrative workflows. Amazon Connect Health currently offers patient verification and ambient documentation. Appointment scheduling and patient insights are in preview, with medical coding and other features set to roll out later. AWS stated that most primary care physicians have up to 300 encounters monthly.
Amazon previously launched Amazon Comprehend Medical in 2018 and Amazon HealthLake in 2021. The company launched HealthOmics, a bioinformatics workflow, in 2022. Amazon purchased online pharmacy PillPack in 2018 for around $1 billion. The company purchased primary care company One Medical in 2022 for $3.9 billion.
Regard, founded in 2017, uses AI to take notes for doctors to reduce administrative burnout. Notable, also founded in 2017, uses AI to automate intake and scheduling. OpenAI released ChatGPT Health in January. Anthropic announced Claude for Healthcare one week later. Claude for Healthcare includes tools for medical professionals, while ChatGPT Health is consumer-facing.
