Apple has launched two new displays, the 27-inch Studio Display XDR and a new standard Studio Display, both featuring 5K Retina displays and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, significantly updating the company’s monitor lineup.

The new displays represent a substantial update to Apple’s monitor offerings, replacing the aging 32-inch 6K Pro XDR Display. This launch provides content creators and professionals with updated hardware options for high-resolution workflows and fast-charging capabilities for MacBook Pro models. The introduction of these displays is expected to enhance the overall user experience for professionals working with high-resolution content.

The Studio Display XDR boasts a 27-inch 5K mini-LED display with over 2,000 dimming zones and up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 80 percent Rec.2020 color coverage. The display is equipped with a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, along with a second port for downstream accessories. It functions as a Thunderbolt hub, delivering up to 140W of charging power through an included cable. This makes it an ideal choice for professionals requiring high-performance displays for tasks such as HDR video editing.

Apple positions the Studio Display XDR as a replacement for the seven-year-old 32-inch 6K Pro XDR Display, which is no longer available for purchase on the company’s website. According to Apple, “The Studio Display XDR is the world’s best pro display for HDR video editing and medical displays.” The display also supports light gaming through its 120Hz refresh rate and Adaptive Sync technology. It comes standard with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand featuring a 105mm height range, providing users with flexibility in adjusting the display to their preferred viewing position.

The standard Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K Retina display with up to 600 nits brightness and P3 wide color. It includes an improved 12MP Center Stage camera, a three-microphone array, and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio. The display supports Thunderbolt 5 connectivity and provides up to 96W of charging power. It ships with a tilt-adjustable stand, and users have the option to upgrade to a tilt- and height-adjustable stand for $400. Additionally, nano-texture glass is available as an upgrade for $300.

The Studio Display XDR is available for pre-order starting at $3,299. The new Studio Display will be available for pre-order on March 4, starting at $1,599 without the nano-texture glass or height-adjustable stand. These new displays are set to provide professionals and content creators with advanced tools for their work, leveraging the latest technology in display and connectivity.
