Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon Wear Elite, a premium chip designed for wearables, at MWC 2026, promising significant performance enhancements for the next generation of Wear OS devices.

The new “Elite” branding is positioned above the existing Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2 tier, marking a substantial upgrade in Qualcomm’s wearable chip offerings. Built on a 3nm process node, the Snapdragon Wear Elite incorporates a big.LITTLE architecture for the first time, a design choice that underscores the chip’s focus on balancing high performance with power efficiency.

The platform is engineered to deliver a considerable performance boost, targeting a new standard for Wear OS devices. Samsung has already confirmed that its next Galaxy Watch will utilize the Snapdragon Wear Elite, highlighting the chip’s industry impact. Google has also weighed in, stating that the Snapdragon Wear Elite aligns with its vision to evolve Wear OS into an “intelligent system.”

The Snapdragon Wear Elite is configured with a 2.1 GHz big core and four 1.95 GHz small cores, a configuration that Qualcomm asserts results in a 5x increase in single-core performance compared to the W5+ Gen 2. The Adreno GPU is another significant upgrade, offering up to a 7x improvement in maximum frames per second (FPS) performance and supporting 1080p resolution at 60 FPS, thereby enhancing the overall graphical capabilities of wearable devices.

A key feature of the Snapdragon Wear Elite is its Hexagon NPU, capable of running up to 2 billion parameters on-device for various AI applications. This capability supports a range of AI-driven functionalities, including computer vision, text-to-speech, and AI agent applications, thereby enriching the user experience with advanced on-device AI processing. Additionally, a dedicated eNPU is tasked with handling low-power, always-on tasks such as keyword detection and noise suppression, marking a departure from the previous co-processor architecture.

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon Wear Elite offers a comprehensive suite of options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, 5G RedCap, and satellite (NB-NTN), ensuring versatile and robust connectivity for wearable devices. The chip also supports 9V quick charging, capable of charging 300-600 mAh batteries to 50% in just 10 minutes, a feature that significantly enhances the convenience and usability of wearables. Furthermore, Qualcomm expects the battery life of devices powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite to be 30% longer compared to those using the previous generation chip.

The Snapdragon Wear Elite is compatible with Android, Wear OS, and Linux operating systems, underscoring its versatility and broad applicability. Qualcomm envisions the chip not only for wearables but also for other AI-centric form factors, such as smart glasses and camera pins, indicating a wider potential impact across various device categories. The first commercial devices featuring the Snapdragon Wear Elite are anticipated to be available in the next few months, marking the beginning of a new era in wearable technology.
