Mozilla has released Firefox 148, introducing five optional AI features to the browser while addressing user concerns about AI integration by allowing individuals to disable specific tools or block future enhancements.

The update includes a dedicated “AI controls” section in the browser’s settings, enabling users to enable or disable individual AI features according to their preferences. This section allows for granular control over the new AI capabilities, which include translations for web pages, alt text generation for PDFs, AI-enhanced tab grouping, link previews, and AI chatbot providers in the sidebar.

These AI chatbot providers available in the sidebar include Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and Le Chat Mistral, giving users a range of options to choose from. Mozilla emphasizes that these features are entirely optional, aligning with the company’s commitment to user choice and control.

A notable addition is the “Block AI enhancements” toggle, which not only disables all current AI features but also blocks future prompts or additions, effectively acting as a kill switch for AI integrations. This move follows a commitment made by Mozilla CEO Anthony Enzor-Demeo in 2025 to provide a clear way to disable AI features.

By incorporating user concerns and providing a flexible approach to AI integration, Mozilla aims to balance the benefits of AI-driven features with user autonomy and preferences, ensuring that Firefox remains adaptable to a wide range of user needs.
