Lamborghini Scraps Lanzador EV, Shifts to Hybrids

Lamborghini has scrapped its plans to produce the Lanzador EV concept, originally slated for a 2029 launch, due to a lack of customer demand, according to CEO Stephen Winkelmann.

Winkelmann confirmed the decision publicly, following a verdict made late last year, marking a significant reversal from the concept’s reveal in August 2023. He cited “close to zero” interest from the brand’s client base for battery-powered EVs as the primary reason.

The CEO explained that electric vehicles in their current state struggle to deliver the “emotional connection” typical of Lamborghini cars, with the absence of engine noise being a contributing factor to this disconnect.

Instead, Lamborghini will introduce a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, joining the existing Revuelto and Urus models. By 2030, the manufacturer intends to transition its entire lineup to hybrid EVs.

Winkelmann stated that the company plans to continue manufacturing internal combustion engines “for as long as possible.” He indicated that a future all-electric Lamborghini remains possible but would only occur “when the time is right.”
