Tesla’s plan to integrate Apple CarPlay into its electric vehicles has hit a roadblock due to app compatibility issues and low adoption rates of iOS 26, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The delay stems from compatibility problems between Apple Maps and Tesla’s built-in navigation system, which also supports the company’s self-driving capabilities. To resolve this, Apple released an iOS 26 update designed to synchronize the two navigation applications, specifically for use with Tesla’s autonomous driving features. Despite this fix, Tesla is reportedly concerned that the adoption rate of iOS 26 is too low to proceed with a wide release.
Gurman noted that iOS 26 adoption is lower than usual but is increasing. According to Apple’s latest figures, 74 percent of iPhones from the last four years are currently running iOS 26. There is still no official date for when CarPlay will be available in Tesla vehicles.
The news comes as Tesla faces declining sales in the United States. January registration estimates indicate that Tesla sales fell for the fourth consecutive month.
