TikTok is discontinuing Notes, its photo-sharing application intended to compete with Instagram, a little over a year after its initial launch. Users have been notified that the app, along with all associated features, will cease operation starting May 8th.
TikTok introduced Notes in April of the previous year, enabling users to share photographs accompanied by captions and explore a “For You” feed populated with suggested content. The app was initially available for testing in Australia and Canada.
According to TikTok, the decision to shut down the app “was not made lightly.” The company is suggesting users try Lemon8, ByteDance’s other social media platform.
Lemon8 allows users to share photos and videos, focusing on lifestyle subjects such as beauty, food, fashion, travel, and pets. A TikTok spokesperson told TechCrunch that feedback from TikTok Notes will be integrated into Lemon8 to build a platform to experience photo content that complements TikTok.
