Airbnb is testing an AI-powered search tool with a small percentage of users, as part of its effort to build an “AI-native experience” announced by CEO Brian Chesky during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call.

The new search tool enables guests to describe their preferences in natural language and inquire about listings and locations, aiming to provide a more intuitive search experience throughout the entire trip. According to a shareholder letter, Airbnb is conducting early testing of this feature to enhance the booking process.

Airbnb is also leveraging AI in its customer service, having introduced an AI-powered chatbot last year. Currently available in North America, the chatbot handles one-third of customer requests without human intervention. Chesky stated that the chatbot is expected to handle “significantly more” tickets within a year and expand its availability globally.
